Summer school 2022 in Basel

General Information

The annual summer school will be hosted by the University of Basel. The local organizing committee (Martin Keller & Oliver Faude) will invite national and international experts who will talk and discuss about "Adaptations to resistance training from various perspectives: from molecules to training".

Date: 16./17. of June 2022

Target group: PhD students (n=20) for the whole summer school; all members are invited to attend the keynotes on June 16. All keynote presentations will also been streamed online. Please note that a registration is mandatory to get access to the online presentations. Please find all details for the registration underneath.

Speakers and program

Keynote speakers

The following keynote speakers will present on June 16 during the summer school:

• Nicola Maffiuletti (Schulhess Clinics Zürich): neuromuscular electrical stimulation
• Christoph Handschin (Biozentrum Basel): skeletal muscle cell plasticity/molecular processes
• Martino Franchi (University of Padova, Italy): Structural adaptation in muscles and tendons
• Jesper Lundbye-Jensen (University of Copenhagen, Denmark): Neural adaptations
• Christoph Centner (University of Freiburg, Germany): "Myotendinous and neuromuscular adaptations following blood flow restriction training: what we know and what we don’t know"

Program at a glance:

• June 16 in the morning: introduction, presentations of Dr. Maffiuletti and Prof. Handschin
• June 16 at noon: active break and lunch
• June 16 in the afternoon: presentations of Prof. Lundbye-Jensen, Prof. Franchi, and Dr. Centner
• June 16 in the evening: dinner with all participants and speakers

• June 17 in the morning: hands-on sessions in the laboratory (topics: blood flow restriction, neural adaptations obtained with transcranial magnetic stimulation and peripheral nerve stimulation, adaptations in muscles and tendons obtaind with ultrasound)
• June 17 at noon: active break and lunch
• June 17 in the afternoon: hands-on sessions and science snacks

The Registration for the summer school is now open. Please note the different options for registration:

Registration for whole summer school (limited to n=20)

The following conditions apply to members of the SGS/4S
-Registration as of 12.04.2022
-Participation fee: 60 CHF (incl. coffee breaks, 2 lunches, 1 dinner).

The following conditions apply to all persons who are not members of the SGS:
-Registration as of 25.04.2022
-participation fee: 120 CHF (incl. coffee breaks, 2 lunches, 1 dinner).

Registration for keynote presentations (free of charge)

In case you are interested in the keynote presentations, you need to register as well. Two options are available:
-Option 1: attending the keynote presentations on-site (registration is mandatory. Please note that we cannot offer free food/drinks during coffee or lunch breaks)
-option 2: attending the keynote presentations via Zoom (registration is mandatory)
